Grin GMAC, a hub with a paper trail
A geared rear hub from a shop that publishes controller notes. Filed at 500 W in the Canadian class.
Grin Technologies in Vancouver sells the GMAC as a builder’s hub. The record is 500 W, which sits with the Canadian federal class around 32 km/h rather than with a European 250 W pedelec.
Geared means it freewheels when the motor is off and it is lighter than a direct-drive cargo hub. It still needs a torque arm, a matched axle and a pack that can do the current.
The reason it is on the catalogue, beside cheaper hubs, is the documentation. A controller you can read is a different ownership experience from a sealed brick with a single sheet.
A British EAPC build would be a different controller and a different page. This one is the motor as the Canadian shop describes it.
